The new website looks great.

District 9 had their spring meeting on 4/25/12. Thank you to Hagerstown FCCLA for hosting. Our guest speaker was a German foreign exchange student from Hagerstown. She explained her recycling projects for State Event ECO and STAR Event Recycle Redesign. She also explained the many differences between our countries. Students made poptab bracelets, newspaper bead bracelets, and cereal box book marks. We also inducted 4 officers for 2012-2013. Thank you District 9 for a great meeting. See you at Leadership in June!

North's FCCLA chapter is getting ready for nationals by preparing for our STAR events with our national qualifiers! We are preparing by participating in many fundraisers too, and will be attending Leadership Academy in June. We are looking forward to another great year!

I learned that when trying to plan, don't over plan! Some of the things we tryed to do didn't even get to happen. My favortie part of the day was when the districts had a small meeting to plan districts meeting.

I am going to have to totally agree with Megan. Communication is not just a skill that people should learn, it is a vital item in society. My favorite part of the day was talking to all of the members in between each session, they are what drive the state officers to want to do good.

I learned that it takes a lot more hard work and practice to put together an event than it seems! My favorite part of the day was talking to the individual chapters and getting to know them so I can better represent them!

Like Marisa said, don't over plan! For my first two mini sessions we planned many things but we weren't able to get to all of them. We probably needed to schedule more time for each session or not put as much into them. My favorite part of the day was with Hutch and Rob!

I think we did over plan. I would rather over plan though then underplan. I think it went really well and the students learned important information. My favorite part was opening.

What are some new ideas that chapters could put into effect to recruit new members at the beginning of the new school year?

A few of my ideas include asking FCS teachers to talk about FCCLA and its benefits during one of their first days of class and personally mentioning FCCLA to incoming freshmen that may be looking for a new club to join.

To recruit new members into FCCLA you could have an FCCLA bash, you could also have a booth advertising FCCLA at Freshman Orientation. Just some ideas to jump start FCCLA in your chapter.

One way to recruit new members would be to set a challenge of having each returning member recruit a friend!
If your school is like North then you could try to send an email out to everyone inviting them to attend your first chapter meeting where you could hold a back to school celebration!

My school has a freshman orientation for 8th graders coming in.  Our chapter sets up a table and lets chapter officers talk about what FCCLA has to offer and it's benefits. My chapter has also talked about having all the FACS classes join. One other way is to announce it on the school announcements

To add to what Kelly was saying, at East Central for the Ice Cream Social we handed out paper ice cream cones inviting people to come. The officers were given 20 the ice cream cones to give to people who normally would not join FCCLA. We used this as an incentive for the officers to see who could get the most of the people to come to the event.

Membership Recruitment ideas: Try incentives! If a member brings in 2 new members they get a reduction in their dues. If a member brings in 1 member they get a soft drink for lunch (if your school allows. If they bring in 5 members they get a chapter t-shirt, etc.

There are so many ways to recruit new members. At ECHS, we host an ice cream social where everyone gets ice cream to enjoy with their friends! We have fun games to play and it is a chance for future members to sign up and get to know a little about FCCLA!

At CHS we host a cookie social and talk about what FCCLA is. We also have a booth set up at our freshman orientation where future freshman can sign up so we can send them more information about FCCLA.

When we elect officers, we make sure the VP of Membership has a very outgoing personality. That person typically talks it up in the hall, hangs lots of signs and for our callout meeting we offer a snack and game to build excitement.

Who's excited for State Leadership Conference? The State Officers sure are! As many of you know, we have an FCCLA Store throughout the weekend, and we usually sell a different t-shirt each year. This year we want YOU to design it! If you or anyone from your chapter is creative, be sure to ask your adviser for the details of the T-Shirt Design contest! The due date for submissions is November 23rd! We can't wait to see all of your awesome ideas!

If you would like to have more contests like this one or you have any suggestions for future contests for Indiana FCCLA, please reply and let us know!

What are some ideas for chapter activities to benefit Share Our Strength, this year's State Outreach Program?

Some of my ideas are to volunteer at a local food pantry or soup kitchen, or to host a food drive at your school.

I think that students could help out by donating money and canned food items to the local Soup Kitchen. Your school could also have a completion as to which class raised the most cans and they get a pizza party or something.

One idea for a project is to have a food drive, kind of like what Erica said. But don't just make it a boring old food drive that are usually unsuccessful. Make it a countywide food drive instead of just in your school. Ask grades to bring in canned foods for an assembly as a grade competition. Make it fun!!

In district 10, we had a competition between our chapters to see who could fundraise the most for Share Our Strength! This could be easily replicated in districts throughout the state. This way the whole District can be involved, and you could make it even more of a competition by having some sort of prize or reward for the winner.

At my school we had a canned food drive competition between all of the surrounding schools. We have a big rivalry between us so we all wanted to win. we got a lot of cans and donated then to all of our local food pantrys.
